Thank you for your interest in getting involved at the AGO.

Art plays a vital role in connecting people and sustaining healthy communities. It provides a source of beauty, inspiration, comfort, and hope, and encourages viewers to consider new perspectives and understand the world in new ways. The AGO’s mission is to bring people together with art and we would be honoured to have your support.

The AGO is a registered charity and the generous support of our community is essential to everything we do. From our crowdfunding campaign to bring Yayoi Kusama’s Infinity Mirrored Room into our Collection to support for our Annual Pass admission model, charitable donations help make it possible to share extraordinary art and learning experiences with everyone.

Thank you!

DONATION FAQs

Is the AGO a registered charity?

Yes, the AGO is a registered charity in Canada. Our Charitable Registration number is 11879 0401 RR0001.

Is my donation tax deductible?

The AGO issues charitable tax receipts for gifts of $10 or more. When you choose to become an AGO Member or purchase tickets to one of our Fundraising Events, the Canada Revenue Agency requires that a deduction be made from your charitable tax receipt, representing the value of benefits received. Should you have any questions about the amount of your contribution which is eligible for a charitable tax receipt, contact [email protected].

Where is my donation receipt?

The AGO issues electronic tax receipts for donations made online at ago.ca, as well as for specific fundraising events. The AGO issues all other charitable tax receipts by physical mail. You will receive an electronic tax receipt for online donations approximately 48 hours after making your gift, and for all other gifts, a physical receipt will be mailed to you. You may also request an electronic tax receipt. For monthly contributions, consolidated tax receipts are issued once a year by February 28th for the previous calendar year's donations. If you have purchased a ticket to an AGO Fundraising Event, in accordance with Canada Revenue Agency guidelines, the AGO will issue a tax receipt for the maximum allowable amount following the event date. Should you have questions about your receipt, you never received your receipt in the mail, or it has been misplaced, kindly contact [email protected] for assistance.

Can I make a tribute donation or a gift in memory of someone?

Yes, we invite you to celebrate a loved one, mark a special occasion, or honour the memory of someone in your thoughts with a gift to the AGO. If making a gift online at ago.ca, you can select the tribute gift option and enter the honourees information along with a personalized message, and select if you wish the recipient to be notified of your gift by email or by mail. The donation amount will not be specified in the note, unless you instruct us otherwise.

Can I make a donation anonymously?

Only donations totaling $2,500 or more within a given year would potentially be recognized publicly, on our website, donor wall or printed materials. If you are making a donation over a certain amount on ago.ca there will be an opportunity to indicate that you wish for that gift to remain anonymous. This will ensure that you will not be recognized publicly for this gift. Please note that the AGO will keep a record of your name and information associated with your gift in a secure database for payment processing purposes. The AGO will not share this information and will only use it for the purposes of communicating with you directly.

How else can I make a donation?

Can I leave the AGO a gift in my will?

The AGO is especially grateful to those who consider making a legacy gift. By planning to leave a gift to the AGO in your will, it helps us plan for the future and grow responsibly. It also allows you to leave a lasting impact on the AGO and the community we are a part of. There are many ways to include the AGO in your will, such as gifts tied to your estate, bequests, a charitable remainder trust, and naming the AGO as a beneficiary of your retirement or life insurance plan. Choosing the right planned gift depends on your personal circumstances and financial goals. We ask that you consult with your financial advisor to determine the right option for you. Click here for more information about Legacy Gifts at the AGO.

Can I give through a Donor-Advised Fund (DAF)?

Yes. DAFs are a simple, flexible, and tax efficient way to support the causes you care about. Your DAF administrator can guide you through recommending a grant.

Special Considerations

  • Some DAF providers note that any “advantage amount” may need to be handled separately. Policies vary, so please confirm details with your DAF provider or advisor.
  • Tax receipts are issued by your DAF sponsor at the time of your contribution to the fund, not by the AGO.

Notifying us of your DAF grant allows us to thank you and ensure your gift is directed as intended. If giving through a DAF, please contact us at [email protected] to let us know. And if you prefer to give anonymously, you can request that your name and fund name be withheld.
